MANHATTAN (KSNT) – Police in Manhattan arrested a local man after he allegedly tried to kidnap a child Wednesday.

The Riley County Police Department (RCPD) announced in a press release that officers were called around 1 p.m. on June 13 on a reported attempt of child abduction outside of a local saloon in the 1100 block of Moro Street. Officers arriving at the scene were pointed towards the suspect, a 43-year-old Manhattan man, who witnesses said aggressively claimed a child did not belong to the child’s guardian.

The man allegedly tried to take the seven-month-old child by force, harming the child in the process. The RCPD detained the man and arrested him on a probable cause offense of attempted aggravated kidnaping.

The investigation into the incident is ongoing. If you have any information to share regarding this incident, you can call the RCPD at 785-537-2112 or make an anonymous report to Manhattan-Riley County Crime Stoppers by clicking here.
