CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — The Chesterfield County Police Department held its National Night Out Kick-Off event on Saturday with live music, vendors and more.

On Saturday, June 15, the Chesterfield County Police Department held its National Night Out Kick-Off event from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Westchester Commons to raise awareness for the department’s National Night Out event to take place on Aug. 6.

“So we’re just kind of having a pre-party to get people interested in the event, come out, meet each other, see some of the resources we have in the county, some of the services we can offer,” said Craig Eckrich, corporal with Chesterfield County Police Department’s community engagement unit.

The department’s annual National Night Out event is designed to heighten crime and drug awareness, generate support for and participation in local, anti-crime efforts and strengthen police-community partnerships.

The kick-off celebration on Saturday featured many county departments including the Sheriff’s Office, Police Activities League and the Attorney General’s Office.

Eckrich said the event is a good way for people to meet with Chesterfield Police officers on a day when they are not in a crisis situation and can get to know them more.

“It’s good to get out and actually meet somebody for a change,” Eckrich said. “Get to know your neighbors, get to know your friends, [and] make some new friends.”
