The unprovoked attack occurred Saturday while the pregnant woman was near an ATM on Mira Mesa Boulevard near Camino Ruiz, according to San Diego police

San Diego police announced Sunday they had arrested a suspect in connection with the stabbing of a pregnant woman during an unprovoked attack a day earlier in Mira Mesa.

Police details about the arrest during an afternoon press conference.

The stabbing happened around 10 a.m. Saturday when a man allegedly walked up to a 25-year-old woman, who is four months pregnant, and stabbed her in the neck, shoulder and chin while she was standing near an ATM on Mira Mesa Boulevard near Camino Ruiz, Sgt. Eric Drilling said in a news release.

Investigators said the man did not demand money from the woman or interact with her before he slashed her with a sharp object, pushing her to the ground.

The woman fought back and others in the parking lot ran over to help. The man fled before police arrived.

Paramedics took the pregnant woman to a hospital, where she was released the same day.
