1: Ambulance fire and four-vehicle crash take place on I-29. Northbound I-29 was closed briefly after an ambulance caught fire while carrying a patient and, later a crash involving multiple vehicles occurred. Around 9:15 p.m., an ambulance from Day County, SD was traveling on the interstate when it suddenly caught fire. The driver of the vehicle came to a stop and assisted the other EMT in removing a patient from the back. Later, while the highway was closed, a four-vehicle injury crash occurred roughly one mile south of the ambulance when a BMW passenger car rear-ended another vehicle, which caused two additional northbound vehicles to be struck. Nine people in four vehicles were involved, and at least five were transported to hospitals in Fargo due to injuries sustained during the crash.

2: Body found along Missouri River identified as Chase Hurdle. The Burleigh County Sheriff’s Office has found Chase Hurdle along the banks of the Missouri River. Hurdle has been missing since November 2021 and was found on Sunday, June 9, shortly before 3 p.m. Deputies responded to the area south of Sibley Park about a body found hung up on a tree. They were able to remove the body and get it on land for an autopsy. The autopsy was done on June 11 and determined that the remains were those of Hurdle. Partial pants, a shirt, glasses, a shoe, and dental records were used to identify him.

3: Three killed in two-vehicle crash near Lisbon. According to the North Dakota Highway Patrol, two vehicles traveling toward each other on Highway 27 crashed head-on around 4:18 p.m. on June 11. The crash caused both vehicles to start on fire after the collision. The drivers of the cars and a passenger in one vehicle died from injuries at the scene.

4: ND goes for gold at the Olympic Games. To find out which parts of the United States have the highest ratio of medalists based on their population, one website calculated the total number of athletes who have won a gold medal at the three most recent Summer or Winter Olympic Games and divided it against every 1,000,000 citizens in their home state. When these numbers were averaged out, it was determined that North Dakota is one of the states with the largest number of gold medalists when compared to the population — and while this fact could be due to ND’s overall low number of residents, it is still a ratio to be proud of.
