A total of 2,269 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, with six motorists stopped for secondary evaluations, the department reported.

Thirty-one citations were issued to drivers going through a checkpoint in Chula Vista Saturday night, two for suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol and one for suspected impairment from drugs, authorities said.

The checkpoint was conducted from 6 p.m. Saturday to midnight on Palomar Street near Broadway, Chula Vista police said.
