RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced that bridge work will continue to replace the East Broad Street bridge over Interstate 95 in Richmond.

According to VDOT, the next weekend closure will start on Friday, June 21 at 8 p.m. and will continue through Monday, June 24 at 6 a.m.

Both northbound and southbound lanes on I-95 at exit 74 will be reduced down to one lane in each direction.

VDOT confirmed that both directions of Broad Street at the bridge over I-95 will also be closed through the weekend.

Pedestrians will still be able to access Broad Street.

Drivers can also expect closures in the following areas:

Exit 74C (I-95 northbound to Broad Street)

Downtown Expressway Exit onto I-95 northbound

Detours will be in place to direct drivers through the work zone. Drivers traveling through Richmond are recommended to use I-295, I-195, Route 288 and Route 1/201 to avoid major delays.
