NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — North Dakota is one of multiple states coming against the Federal Government for new restrictions on the oil and gas industry that they say are causing irreparable damages.

The Bureau of Land Management, or BLM, recently implemented some regulations when it comes to venting and flaring in the oil and gas industry.

North Dakota appeared in the federal courtroom on June 18, where they claimed BLM is taking over the state’s regulatory authority.

They say the BLM’s regulation methods negate the state’s own methods and could cause permanent loss of resources on North Dakota trust lands by causing wells with low production numbers to be abandoned.

Defendants for BLM say while North Dakota may see some losses with this regulation, they would also see significant gains as it would allow for gas that’s flared to earn royalties for stakeholders.

North Dakota will be seeking an injunction on this regulation — meaning if Judge Daniel Traynor rules in their favor, the regulations will be put on pause.
