BISMARCK, ND (KXNET) — One nonprofit is giving back to local-area veterans in a major way.

Through fundraising efforts like one held Wednesday evening in Bismarck, 701 Kayaking is working to provide kayak excursions to those who have served our country.

Their goal is to raise funds to purchase 14 new kayaks, as they are looking to expand the program to help more veterans in need.

President and founder of the organization, David Patch, says that the idea for 701 Kayaking came after kayaking.

He says kayaking on the river is an important coping mechanism for him, and he feels like other veterans can experience the same benefits.

“Bismarck is a veteran community. It’s a really heavy National Guard community. Everybody knows somebody who suffers from mental health in the veteran community and we’re just reaching out and offering a branch of help,” Patch shared.

The goal of the fundraiser is to raise $60,000. All proceeds will go toward kayaks and equipment.
