HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — Two adults and two children were rescued Thursday night after a boat accident on the James River.

Just before 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 20, units from both Chesterfield and Henrico counties — including Chesterfield Fire and EMS, the Chesterfield Police Department and the Henrico County Division of Fire — were dispatched to a boat accident on the James River, near Falling Creek.

When Chesterfield firefighters arrived, they found a boat had run aground on the Henrico side of the James. As they were on the other side of the river, Chesterfield firefighters used a drone to contact those on the boat and ask if any of them were hurt.

None of the four occupants, two adults and two children, reported any injuries.

According to fire officials, Henrico Fire units were the first to arrive with a boat, shortly before Chesterfield’s own. They helped all four people off of the boat and brought them to safety.

A spokesperson for Chesterfield Fire & EMS told 8News that the cause of the accident is not yet clear.
