TOPEKA (KSNT) – Shawnee County deputies have identified the child killed near Lake Sherwood on Thursday as Zerick Ozuna, 9, of Topeka.
Deputies arrived to an incident on Southwest Worwick Town Road and found the 9-year-old located inside a house. The child was suffering from multiple wounds to the chest and neck. The child was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 9-year-old’s mother, Shyla M. Goracke, 29, of Topeka has been custody in connection to the incident. She is currently being held at a local hospital. An autopsy of the child was scheduled for Friday.
