RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Much of Central Virginia will be under a heat advisory on Saturday, with the National Weather Service (NWS) warning of heat indexes several degrees over 100.
According to the NWS, this heat advisory will be in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 22, with an average heat index of 105 degrees Fahrenheit expected. This extreme heat and humidity could potentially extend into Sunday, as well.
“Temperatures only fall back into the mid-70s to near 80 for most Saturday night, which will compound heat stress on those without air conditioning,” the NWS alert reads.
The NWS warns that such excessive heat can cause heat-borne illnesses, such as heat exhaustion or heat stroke.

It is best to stay in an air-conditioned place, drink plenty of water and remain out of the sun. If you must go outside, you are advised to take extra precautions and limit strenuous activities.
