RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) – Former President Donald Trump (R) will be joined by Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R) for a campaign rally in Virginia on June 28, multiple sources confirmed to 8News.

The planned rally, first reported by CBS News, will come the day after Trump faces off with President Joe Biden in Atlanta for their first debate ahead of the November election. The 90-minute debate is being hosted by CNN.

A source told 8News the rally’s location is not final, but the expectations are that it will be in the Hampton Roads area. Trump held a rally in Richmond before Super Tuesday and he became the presumptive Republican nominee.

After Biden won Virginia by 10 points in 2020, polls for this year’s matchup suggest a much closer race in 2024.

Trump and Youngkin, who endorsed the former president after keeping his distance during his gubernatorial campaign, have both claimed that Virginia is potentially in play for Republicans.

Even before Trump clinched the Republican presidential nomination, Youngkin came to the former president’s defense after Trump was indicted over his alleged mishandling of classified documents at his Florida estate Mar-a-Lago.

Youngkin also backed Trump after the former president was found guilty on 34 felony counts in his New York hush money trial.

“Look at our spineless, failed governor @GlennYoungkin kissing up to Donald Trump. You’re such an embarrassment, you really are a lost soul,” the Democratic Party of Virginia posted on X in response to CBS News’ report. “PS – Every minute Donald Trump is speaking he will only widen our margin for @JoeBiden in Virginia! Thanks Donald!”
