RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Six of Richmond’s mayoral candidates will be at Virginia Union University for a forum on Monday, June 24.

The event was organized by the Urban League Greater Richmond Young Professionals (ULGRYP). It will begin with a moderated discussion between candidates, allowing potential voters to get a feel for potential policies and ideas.

“There’s nothing that is done without having an education about people’s visions,” said ULGRYP president Tyrone Williams. “We really want to make sure that whoever comes in next for the city of Richmond, we can invest in them.”

Williams said key issues expected to be discussed include economic development, education, public safety, healthcare and social justice.

Young voters are going to be an important group to engage with, as they are looking for someone who will lead Richmond into their future, Williams said.

“Our young professionals are going to be key — they’re going to be prominent because we are the ones who are going to be investing in the future,” Williams said. “This is a very pivotal year.”

The mayoral forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at Virginia Union University’s Chapel, located at 1500 N. Lombardy St. in Richmond.
