RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) — Richmond voters will have the chance to get a firsthand look at who’s vying for the city’s mayoral seat Monday night.

The Urban League of Greater Richmond Young Professionals (ULGRYP), in partnership with community partners will host the 2024 Richmond Mayoral Forum at Virginia Union University.

The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Richmond Branch, National Pan-Hellenic Council of Metro Richmond, National Council of Negro Women Richmond Section, and the Substance Abuse and Addiction Recovery Alliance of Virginia are included in this partnership.

“We believe in empowering our community by providing access to crucial information that will shape the future of Richmond,” said Tyrone Williams, President of the ULGRYP.

According to the Richmond Office of Elections, five candidates are running for the mayoral seat— Andreas Addison, Danny Avula, Michelle Mosby, Maurice Neblett and Harrison Roday.

Addision currently serves as a councilman for the first district while Mosby formerly served as a councilwoman for the ninth district.

Avula served as the state’s covid-19 vaccine coordinator under former governor Ralph Northam.Neblett and Roday are political newcomers.

Under city rules, Mayor Levar Stoney cannot run for a third consecutive term.

Stoney is currently vying for the lieutenant governor’s seat.

Richmond constituents will have the chance to ask candidates question as those on the ballot plan to address key issues such as economic development, education, public safety, healthcare and social justice.

The forum will be held at Virginia Union University’s chapel at, also known as Coburn Hall at 1500 North Lombardy Street from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday, June 24.
