Joseph A. Couch is a 32 year old white male approximately 5’10 weighing approximately 154lbs.

LONDON, Ky. (AP) — Multiple people were shot Saturday along Interstate 75 in a rural area south of Lexington, authorities said.

The Laurel County Sheriff’s office said in a post on Facebook that it was an “active shooter situation” and “numerous persons” were shot near the highway.

It added that the interstate was closed 9 miles north of London.

“I am receiving initial reports from the Kentucky State Police and our Office of Homeland Security — together we are actively monitoring the situation and offering support in any way possible,” Gov. Andy Beshear said in a post on the social platform X. “Please pray for everyone involved.”

“We will provide more details once they are available,” Beshear said.

ABC36 News Now has confirmed a number of patients from the shooting incident were taken to UK’s hospital for treatment.

Right now, the exact number isn’t known, and the hospital tells us there are more victims en route to the hospital.

LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – An active shooter situation has led to the closure of I-75 at mile marker/exit 49, as well as U.S. 25, approximately nine miles north of London, according to the Laurel County Sheriff’s Office.

Authorities have reported that several people have been shot near I-75, and law enforcement is actively responding to the situation.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area as the investigation is ongoing. Further details regarding the number of victims and the status of the shooter have not been released at this time.

Anyone in the vicinity is urged to stay away and follow updates from law enforcement for additional information.
