A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a vehicle on Franklin Street in Westfield.

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A man in a wheelchair was struck and killed by a vehicle on Franklin Street in Westfield on Sunday evening.


Crash investigation closed Franklin Street in Westfield

Information released by the Hampden District Attorney’s Office on Tuesday said a 76-year-old man from Westfield was hit by a vehicle in the area of the 0-100 block of Franklin Street on Sunday at around 6 p.m. They say that it appears that he was attempting to cross the street in a crosswalk.

He was taken to Baystate Medical Center where he died due to his injuries. The driver remained at the crash site during the investigation. The name of the victim has not been released at this time.

Franklin Street from Conner Avenue to Sheppard Street was closed for several hours while the Westfield Police Department and the Hampden District Attorney’s Office’s Motor Vehicle Homicide Unit investigated.
