LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Tuesday! Another chilly start to the day with many locations falling into the 40s once again. Don’t get too used to it though, you’ll need the A/C this afternoon as temperatures return to the low-to-mid 80s. We continue this warming trend into the day on Wednesday where most locations hit the mid-80s, with some upper 80s possible. Rain chances will be increasing late week as tropical moisture from “Francine” will be moving in.

Eyes continue to be on the tropics, as now Tropical Storm Francine is moving through the Gulf of Mexico. Francine will likely be making landfall along the Louisiana on Wednesday, then working its way up the Mississippi valley. We will start to see cloud cover increasing through the day on Thursday, with some rain possible late in the day for southern Kentucky. This will be slowing down significantly and potentially stalling out as it moves into the Tennessee valley. The exact location of where this system slows down will be the biggest determining factor in our rain and storm chances here locally.

You can expected at least scattered showers and some storms across central Kentucky on Friday into Saturday. If the system stalls out further east, then this would increase the rain chances for eastern Kentucky. If it stalls out further towards the west, in far western Kentucky or even further west into Missouri, this would likely lower our rainfall totals. As with any remnant tropical system, the potential for locally heavy rainfall will be present.

There is also some uncertainty around when exactly this system fully weakens and exits the region. Some models suggest this could linger around a few days, but some suggests this could weaken by Saturday night and lead to lower rain chances Sunday into Monday.
