CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Tuesday’s presidential debate marked the first and possibly only debate for Vice President Harris and former President Trump. 22News spoke with voters to find out how they’re feeling following their discourse.

Reaction poured in following the first presidential debate between VP Harris and former president Trump. Voters taking the time to watch both candidates pressed on their policies and goals during the high stakes event.

“I’m so happy with the debate i thought Kamala did an amazing job,” said David Slack of Florence.

“I’d like to see Trump win and secure the borders you know there’s an issue between gun violence and substance abuse in western mass,” added Manuel O’Leary Moreno of Holyoke.

NBC News fact-checked both candidates following the debate. In some of those moments,
trump claimed the quote, “Vice President Harris wants to confiscate your guns”. However, Harris is proposing gun safety laws, which include anyone who sells more than five guns a year must conduct background checks. Harris said during the debate both her and walz are gun owners.

Meantime, Harris claims no US military members are on active duty in a combat zone. That claim is false, according to NBC News. With troops currently in Iraq and Syria, among other battlefronts. One woman who did not tune in to the debate, still trying to keep an eye on both candidates.

“I feel like there’s a lot of influence um both at work outside family friends things like that but at this point, I’m not particularly leading towards one side or the other,” said Sevil Usmanova of Holyoke.

It’s unclear if Harris and Trump will take part in another debate. Although, usually presidential candidates participate in three debates before election day. The vice presidential debate will take place next month on the first. Republican senator JD Vance and Governor Tim Walz will take the debate stage in New York City.
