APD says Johns called police to report that he and his friend, Flores, had gotten into a fight while the pair were riding an all-terrain vehicle in the area. According to a criminal complaint, Johns told police that the two got into an argument and Flores attacked him with a plastic pole. He said he then retrieved a firearm from his vehicle and fired a shot off above Flores’ head. Johns told police he then loaded his ATV onto a trailer and left the area before calling police to report the incident.

Early Tuesday, September 10, city workers found a dead body in the area of Los Picaros Rd. and Dragway Rd. Through their investigation, detectives determined the description Johns gave of Flores matched the description of the body found, which had a gunshot wound to the head. Police secured a warrant for murder for Johns, who was arrested and booked into the Metropolitan Detention Center.
