Some of the driest weather since the beginning of the monsoon moves into New Mexico Thursday. Higher rain chances return on Sunday.

Spotty showers have developed Wednesday across northern New Mexico and even into eastern parts of the state. A couple thunderstorms have been strong this afternoon in the northern mountains. Some of this rain may evaporate though before reaching the ground as showers and storms continue into the evening, producing gusty winds and blowing dusts. The rain will end overnight though as skies clear. It’s been another warm day too, with highs above normal for this time of year.

Dry weather returns to all of New Mexico Thursday, with not a single chance for rain anywhere in the state tomorrow or Friday. Temperatures will also continue to warm Thursday all across New Mexico, but a weak front will drop highs a degree or two Friday in the western half of the state. Roswell will either tie or break record high temperatures both Thursday and Friday. Wildfire smoke will also return to New Mexico Thursday morning. This is from the wildfires burning in California. The smoke will spread east across the state through the day Thursday, but will clear out by Friday morning.

Rain chances will return to parts of southern and western New Mexico Saturday afternoon as moisture from a tropical system will start to get drawn up into the state. More of that moisture will move in Sunday, bringing scattered to widespread showers and storms through next Tuesday. Breezy winds will return Tuesday with drier air moving in Tuesday night. Cooler air and drier weather returns next Wednesday.
