ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – Closing arguments are being heard Thursday in the trial against former Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Deputy Michael Borrecco. He is accused of being drunk and pulling a gun on Michael Ruiz and Deaven Carey at a Circle K on Osuna while off-duty in January 2024.

The defense told the jury that Borrecco was concerned that the men up to no good and that the former BCSO deputy was following his training. The state argues Borrecco abused his power and committed assault when he pulled out his gun on the two men. Borrecco is on trial for assault and gun charges. If convicted, Borrecco faces up to a year and a half behind bars.
