LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC 36 NEWS NOW) – Happy Thursday! I hope you were able to catch the beautiful sunrise this morning. This colorful sunrise was thanks to upper level clouds associated with what’s left of Francine. Anytime there’s an approaching tropical system, you can expect very colorful and vibrant sunrises. Cloud cover will increase form south to north throughout the day as Francine works up the Mississippi.

The forecast path for the Francine has shifted significantly to the southwest. This means rain and storms will still be possible, but heavy rain will remain to our west. Scattered rain and some storms will be possible at times on Friday and into Saturday for central Kentucky, particularly south-central Kentucky near the lakes. Northeast and far eastern Kentucky, you’ll be lucky to see a few rain showers if anything at all. Don’t expect all day rain Friday or Saturday either.

Heading to the Kentucky and Georgia game at Kroger Field on Saturday? It’s still too early to say for sure whether or not that we will see a few showers and storms around the area. The trend is certainly suggesting most of the rain will stay to the south and west. However, you can expect some breezy conditions on Saturday into Saturday evening. Wind gusts upwards of 25-35 mph will be possible.

The weekend will end with a few showers possible towards south-central Kentucky, while most other areas will be staying mainly dry. Temperatures will try to warm-up as well, back into the mid-80s for areas that remain dry with some sunshine peaking through.

Our eyes are on another system early next week. A coastal low could be forming off the coast of the Carolinas before moving inland. This *could* bring another chance of rain to the area, this time for eastern Kentucky. It’s still way too early to have much certainty. The Climate Prediction Center is highlighting far eastern Kentucky for slightly above normal rain for next week. It will likely be seasonably warm in central Kentucky next week as well. Especially if the rain stays to our east.
