NMED says aging septic systems pose a threat to public and environmental health. The program provides funding to replace failing systems and covers costs of connecting to a central sewer system. Applicants will be reviewed on a first come-first served basis and will be reviewed to ensure the repairs are necessary. NMED says it expects to make all awards for funding in November.

Eligibility Requirements:

Must own or be in the process of purchasing the property where repairs will occur and have resided in the home for the past year

Home value, assessed by the county assessor, must not exceed the U.S. Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) median home value for their county

Applicants must meet income guidelines based on HUD guidelines. HUD guidelines vary by county

Anyone interested in applying can apply online or pick up a physical application at a NMED field office.
