LAUREL COUNTY, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The aftermath of Saturday’s mass shooting on I-75 in Laurel County continues to affect students and school districts across the region. Several schools have canceled classes and extracurricular activities for the remainder of the week as a precaution.

The Whitley County School District has canceled all classes for the rest of the week. Laurel County Public Schools announced that it will begin utilizing Non-Traditional Instruction (NTI) days starting today. Clay County Public Schools is also using NTI days today and tomorrow following a vehicle being struck by a bullet on Wednesday in Perry County.

Other districts using NTI days include Jackson and Knox County Public Schools, which are also implementing remote learning today. Corbin Independent Schools has canceled Friday night’s football game against Pulaski County and will use an NTI day. Williamsburg City Schools are on NTI days as well, with all practices and extracurricular events canceled through Sunday.

Parents and guardians are encouraged to check with their local school districts for the latest updates on remote learning and cancellations.
