September is Suicide Prevention Month, highlighting that suicidal thoughts and mental health challenges can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, or background.

While common, these thoughts signal deeper struggles that need attention.

The Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center is an organization committed to addressing these issues by changing the conversation around mental health and ensuring people and families have access to vital resources for open discussions about suicide prevention.

Jennifer Brush is the center’s executive director. She joined Carolyn Murray on Friday afternoon to discuss the sensitive topic, how they are raising awareness, and what resources are available for individuals and families who may be struggling with mental health issues or are affected by suicide.

If you are feeling overwhelmed, hopeless, or struggling with thoughts of suicide, there is help available. Reach out to the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline by calling 988.

Trained counselors are available to listen and provide support at any time of day or night. Your conversation is private, and you can speak openly.
