NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) – The search for a new police chief in North Charleston has been narrowed to six candidates.

The final six positions were selected from the original pool of 34 candidates and included two finalists from within the department and one from the City of Charleston.

Among the internal candidates is Jason Bruder, a long-time North Charleston resident who currently serves as a captain with the Charleston Police Department. He leads the investigations, data, and intelligence division.

Karen Cordray serves as deputy chief for the North Charleston Police Department, and Deputy Chief Angela Johnson, who has worked within North Charleston PD since 1996.

All three are natives of North Charleston. The other candidates are from across the country, they include Ronald Camacho, Kyle Dowdy, and Jerri Sutton.

Final in-person interviews are scheduled for September 18 in front of a 10-person panel. The selection for the next chief will be decided by the mayor.
