FRANKFORT, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Governor Andy Beshear is set to sign an executive order that will officially ban conversion therapy in Kentucky. The signing scheduled for 10 a.m. in Frankfort.

Governor Beshear is to be joined by leaders from several advocacy groups, including the Kentucky Mental Health Coalition, the Fairness Campaign, the Kentucky Psychological Association, and the National Association of Social Workers Kentucky Chapter.

According to the American Psychological Association, conversion therapy is a controversial practice that attempts to change an individual’s sexual orientation or gender identity. The executive order will prohibit the use of this therapy in the Commonwealth.
