MT. JULIET, Tenn. (WKRN) — This weekend, the city of Mt. Juliet will be honoring a Green Hill High School student after she lost her life in a tragic car accident in 2022.

This year would be Ambria McGregor’s senior year at Green Hill High School.

On Thursday, News 2 sat down with Ambria’s mother, Brittney McGregor.

“Ambria had a zest for life like no one I’ve ever seen,” McGregor said.

In December 2022, Ambria lost her life in a tragic car accident when she was leaving her youth group on Lebanon Pike.

“I keep saying her name, I keep looking for her all around. It really helps me slow down and appreciate the small things that she always noticed,” McGregor said.

It’s just one way McGregor honors her daughter. “I told my husband that we are never leaving Mt. Juliet because the community has been so uplifting.”

This weekend, the community will come out for the 2nd annual Live Like Ambria Day.

“All of this day is centered around things that she loved. And we are hoping it will bring a smile to everybody else’s [day],” McGregor said.

The event includes a 5K, volleyball tournament, pickleball bash, live music, and free activities for kids.

“I’ve added a petting zoo this year so that’s going to be awesome. Ambria loved animals,” McGregor said.

McGregor said it brings comfort to her family to know her daughter’s memory is still alive.

“It’s pretty overwhelming when you see the people come out and they all got their t-shirts on and you see the smiles on their faces it just tells me, she’s not forgotten and I can’t tell you the peace that brings to our hearts.”

Proceeds go to the nonprofit, Ambria’s Oasis, which gives back to grieving parents through retreats and counseling and promotes road safety when it comes to proper signage and guardrails.

The second annual Live Like Ambria Day is at Charlie Daniels Park on Saturday, Sept. 21. It starts with a 5K at 8 a.m. and ends at sunset.
