ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – The Albuquerque police department arrested two people, accused in separate auto thefts. The two men arrested were 33-year-old Clifton Archie and 40-year-old Matthew Hunter.


Albuquerque Police make arrest in case involving thieves smashing store’s wall with sledgehammer

APD says just after midnight on September 18, a bait car was stolen and officers were able to identify Archie through cameras inside the car. Police say officers recognized Archie due to his history of stealing cars. Archie fled the vehicle when detectives tried to make contact with him near Tennessee and Copper. Officers were able to arrest Archie and charge him with unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, he also had active warrants. APD says 39 people have been arrested for stealing bait cars since the beginning of the year.

APD says around 8 p.m. on September 17, an officer responded to a crash where a car was flipped on its side. The occupants of the car fled on foot and the officer chased the male that fled and took Hunter into custody. The vehicle came back as stolen and police found a gun inside the vehicle. Hunter was charged with multiple charges including receiving/transferring a stolen vehicle, he also had active warrants.
