ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque woman will spend more than a decade behind bars in connection to the death of her baby and her grandchild testing positive for drugs. Victoria Romero pled guilty to child abandonment resulting in death, child abuse, and tampering with evidence in July.


Albuquerque Police make arrest in case involving thieves smashing store’s wall with sledgehammer

In March 2023, daycare workers reported Romero’s grandchild, who was living with her, showed up smelling like marijuana. A drug test showed the toddler tested positive for meth and marijuana. While investigating this incident, Albuquerque police discovered Romero’s seven-month-old son had died months earlier after falling between a bed and a wall in June 2022. The medical examiner said the baby tested positive for meth contributing to her death.

Judge Courtney Weaks sentenced Romero to 12 years in prison.
