A man who was recently arrested in Texas is now awaiting return to Nashville after he allegedly admitted to strangling his wife to death in their Antioch home in 2023, police said.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WKRN) — A man who was recently arrested in Texas is now awaiting return to Nashville after he allegedly admitted to strangling his wife to death in their Antioch home in 2023, police said.

The Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD) announced Thursday, Sept. 19, that 33-year-old Donovan Holt was arrested in San Antonio, Texas after he confessed to detectives the circumstances surrounding his wife’s death.

Authorities said 29-year-old April Holt was found unresponsive in the bathroom of the couple’s Cane Ridge Parkway home in July of 2023.

She was reportedly found with a plastic bag taped tightly around her neck and was taken to Southern Hills Hospital, where she later died.

According to MNPD, the Medical Examiner’s Office initially classified her death as a suicide in November 2023, determining that her death was due to complications of suffocation.

However, Donovan’s confession to MNPD Cold Case Unit detectives revealed that he was responsible for strangling his wife, police said.

He was indicted by a grand jury for reckless homicide, evidence tampering and false reporting. The police department said he will be returned to Nashville soon.

No additional details were immediately released.
