The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal industrial accident that occurred in Milton on Wednesday.
MILTON, N.Y. (NEWS10) — The Saratoga County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal industrial accident that occurred in Milton on Wednesday. The incident took place at Cottrell Paper on Rock City Road around 12:21 p.m.
The preliminary investigation determined that on September 18, 42-year-old Anthony Smith Jr., of Milton, a Cottrell Paper employee, became trapped in a compactor on-site. Company members as well as firefighters and emergency medical personnel were able to remove Smith from the machinery, but officials say he couldn’t be revived and he was declared dead at the scene by a Saratoga County coroner.
Deputies were assisted by state police and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
