High pressure to our west and low pressure off the coast continue their days long feud over the News10 viewing area. While high pressure got the better of that area of low pressure for Thursday yielding warm and sunny weather, low pressure looks to make it more of a 50-50 split with more clouds in our skies for the conclusion of the work week. While shower chances are nonzero, guidance continues to trend drier – only a stray, light, late-day rain shower or two possible Friday. If your lawns are looking dry, a potentially soaking rain is included towards the tail end of our 7-day forecast.

Skies will trend cloudier the farther east you find yourself on this third Friday of September, particularly into Western New England. While the shower chance even here is on the low side, its a bit higher than the rest of the viewing area which looks to be overwhelmingly dry. Cooler weather is expected compared to the past week or so, with high temperatures in the 70s.

Skies will turn partly cloudy overnight with a stray shower or two possible along and east of the Hudson River. Just like during the day-time, any shower would be light, and most stay dry. Low temperatures in the 50s once again into Saturday morning.

More clouds than sun expected for Saturday. Just like Friday, we can’t totally rule out a brief isolated shower or two across the region. Any shower would be brief, so keep those outdoor plans on the schedule! High temperatures will trend a bit lower, with upper 60s to mid 70s on tap.

Brighter skies arrive for Sunday, the first day of astronomical fall. Someone out there must have tipped off Mother Nature to the equinox, because a pattern flip to more typical fall-like weather arrives right on schedule. Temperatures Sunday only briefly climb into the lower 70s for highs, while the mountains are likely stuck in the 60s all afternoon long. Lots of sun expected to kick off the work week, but skies will turn mostly cloudy by Monday evening ahead of an unsettled stretch of weather. Monday’s temperatures should be 1-3 degrees lower than what we see Sunday, with more 60s on the board.

Mostly cloudy with a few late-day showers on Tuesday an a large upper-level trough propagates eastward across the United States. The speed and strength of this trough, and thus the timing and coverage of rain, is still literally “up-in-the-air” as of Friday morning, so you’ll want to keep an eye on the forecast over the next few days. It appears, at this time, that Wednesday and especially Thursday will be our first umbrella-worthy weather days in over two weeks. Regardless, it’s going to start feeling like fall in quite a hurry! High temperatures by the middle of next week will struggle to get out of the mid 60s!
