Discovery High School in Springfield opens new location

A parent of a student at Discovery Polytech Early College High School contacted 22News and said the school sent a text on Friday morning stating:

“DHS Announcement: This morning a DHS student shared with us a screenshot of a social media post threat to the school. In abundance of caution, we called the police and they came on site to assist with morning entry. Currently, classes are running as usual. Unfortunately there have been similar hoax in social media posts nationwide over the last week but of course we still take every threat seriously.”

The parent said a Springfield Police vehicle was parked in front of the school when they dropped their child off.

Azell Cavaan, Chief Communications Officer for Springfield Public Schools, told the 22News I-Team that “…school officials reported that a student informed them upon arrival that they had seen a threat against the school on social media, though they could not provide the post or specify where they had seen it. Out of an abundance of caution, school personnel requested additional security measures and promptly notified parents.”
