Meteorological Department Announcement No. 3 warns Thailand of heavy to very heavy rain and strong waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Many provinces are warned that they will be affected until tomorrow (23 Sept. 67).

September 22, 2024, the Meteorological Department announced the announcement of heavy to very heavy rain in Thailand and strong waves in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand, Issue 3 (effective until September 23, 2024)

It was stated that during 22-23 September 2024, Thailand will experience heavy to very heavy rain in some areas of the North, Northeast, Central, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the East. In the South, there will be heavy rain in some areas. This is because the monsoon trough is quite strong across the North, Central, and Northeast regions, while the southwest monsoon is quite strong covering the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the upper Gulf of Thailand.

People in the aforementioned areas are asked to be careful of the dangers of heavy to very heavy rain and accumulated rain, which may cause flash floods and forest runoff, especially on hillsides near waterways and lowlands.

Provinces expected to experience heavy to very heavy rain are as follows:

On September 22, 2024

the North: Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Lamphun, Lampang, Phayao, Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Tak, Sukhothai, Kamphaeng Phet, Phichit, Phitsanulok and Phetchabun provinces

Northeast: Loei, Nong Khai, Bueng Kan, Nong Bua Lamphu, Udon Thani, Sakon Nakhon, Nakhon Phanom, Chaiyaphum, Khon Kaen, Kalasin, Mukdahan, Maha Sarakham, Roi Et, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Nakhon Ratchasima, Buriram, Surin, Sisaket and Ubon Ratchathani provinces.

Central region: Nakhon Sawan, Uthai Thani, Chai Nat, Lopburi, Saraburi, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Samut Sakhon, Samut Songkhram, including Bangkok and its vicinity

Eastern region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces
Southern region: Ranong and Phang Nga provinces

On September 23, 2024

Eastern region: Nakhon Nayok, Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Chachoengsao, Chonburi, Rayong, Chanthaburi and Trat provinces
Southern Region: Ranong Province

For waves in the Andaman Sea and the Gulf of Thailand, they are quite strong. The Andaman Sea and the upper Gulf of Thailand have waves 2-3 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, the waves are higher than 3 meters. The lower Gulf of Thailand has waves approximately 2 meters high. In areas with thunderstorms, the waves are higher than 2 meters.

Sailors in the said areas are asked to sail with caution and avoid sailing in areas with thunderstorms. Small boats in the Andaman Sea and upper Gulf of Thailand should refrain from leaving the shore for another day.
