A storm will bring rain and wind to New Mexico Saturday. Temperatures will feel more like fall on Sunday.

Moisture has been drawn up into New Mexico Friday ahead of a storm system Saturday. This has been bringing scattered showers to parts of eastern and northern New Mexico today, along with a couple spotty showers into the Albuquerque Metro. Temperatures have been cooler today in these areas thanks to the clouds. Scattered showers will continue across parts of New Mexico through the overnight hours.

A fall-like storm system will move into New Mexico by Saturday afternoon. This will increase the storm coverage across the eastern half of the state, where strong to severe storms are possible. Storms will also move back into norther New Mexico by the afternoon. An isolated, morning rain shower can’t be ruled out in the Albuquerque Metro, but drier and windier weather will move in by the afternoon. Areas from Albuquerque into southwest New Mexico could see wind gusts up to 45 mph Saturday afternoon. Rain and thunderstorms will move out of New Mexico by late Saturday night as a cold front sweeps across the state, leaving cooler temperatures around on Sunday morning.

Fall officially begins at 6:43 AM Mountain Time Sunday, and it will definitely feel more like fall. High temperatures Sunday afternoon will even be cooler than normal for this time of year. The cooler conditions will stick around into early next week. Forecast models are coming into better agreement that a storm system will again impact New Mexico starting next Tuesday, bringing back widespread chances for rain and thunderstorms, along with even cooler temperatures, through at least next Thursday.
