“Warawut” reveals the Cabinet resolution approving the central budget of 416 million baht for the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security to pay for the funeral expenses of the elderly according to tradition, which are still pending for almost 140,000 cases, confirming that the payment will be expedited.

On September 24, 2024, Mr. Varawut Silpa-archa, Minister of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS), revealed at Government House after the Cabinet meeting today that the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security (MSDHS) would like to thank the Cabinet for approving funds from the central budget for the project to support the traditional funeral arrangements for the elderly for the fiscal year 2024, which has been outstanding for some time. As of the latest status on July 31, 2024, there are approximately 138,832 outstanding cases in which elderly people who have died must receive funeral arrangements for the elderly according to tradition.

The Cabinet has approved a budget from the central budget of 416,496,000 baht to be paid to the people nationwide. For the 2025 budget, we have already requested the budget. However, from the increase and decrease in the number of elderly deaths, the budget may not be complete for the 2025 budget. We will request the budget next year to make up the full amount.

“Initially, regarding the 2024 budget, we are pleased to inform our brothers and sisters that the funeral expenses for the elderly according to tradition have now been subsidized by the government, through the cabinet and the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security, from the central budget and will be disbursed to our brothers and sisters nationwide soon.”
