SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – People in Springfield will come together to honor fallen Officer Kevin Ambrose and will dedicate the soccer field at Greenleaf Park in his honor.

The field will officially be renamed the “Kevin Ambrose Field”. Officer Ambrose was killed in the line of duty 12 years ago. He was shot while trying to protect a woman and her child from her boyfriend.


Springfield park receives a $2.5 million transformation

Greenleaf Park is in Ambrose’s home district, 16 acres. 

Mayor Sarno states, “Officer Kevin Ambrose made the ultimate sacrifice saving the lives of a young mother and her child. Throughout his career, that was tragically cut short, Officer Ambrose was a strong mentor and active in youth sports and development right in his home district of 16 acres. He touched so many lives through his service and sacrifices, we are proud to honor his legacy of helping and creating opportunities for youth. God Bless the Ambrose family and all of our officers who continue to service and protect our community.”
