WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – This past weekend, The Big E honored three dedicated team members with its prestigious “Host of the Day” award, celebrating their exceptional customer service and commitment to enhancing the fair experience.

Peter Hogan Honored as Host of the Day on September 20

Peter Hogan of Holyoke was surprised with the Host of the Day award on Friday, September 20. Hogan, who serves as a parking lot attendant and shuttle driver at Gate 9A, was recognized for his positive attitude and the friendly, informative interactions he provides to fairgoers.

Gene Cassidy, Eastern States Exposition President and CEO, personally presented Hogan with the award. “You’re doing a great job out here,” Cassidy said. “You’re motivated, you smile, and you do a great service for the fairgoers. Today, we’re celebrating you as the Host.”

Hogan, who joined the Big E team in 2019 after retiring from Hasbro, takes pride in offering first-time visitors helpful tips on what to see and do at the fair. “I like to tell them what’s good here,” Hogan said. “I drive folks to the entrance and bring them back when their legs are tired.” Hogan looks forward to continuing his work with The Big E for years to come.

Christopher Alston Recognized on September 21 for His Dedication

Christopher Alston of Springfield was named Host of the Day on Saturday, September 21, for his outstanding work as a bathroom attendant at the Big E’s transportation center near Gate 1. Alston, who has been with the fair for four years, has gained viral fame for his dedication to keeping the facilities spotless and providing an upbeat atmosphere with karaoke performances and candy giveaways.

Cassidy praised Alston for his above-and-beyond efforts, saying, “You make every day special for everyone else, and that’s why we are recognizing you as Host of the Day.”

Alston enjoys his role and takes pride in making a difference. “I love knowing that I get to clean this bathroom, make it smell good, and make people happy,” he said. His efforts have not gone unnoticed, with patrons and staff alike praising his commitment to creating a positive experience for everyone.

Laura Thompson Awarded Host of the Day on September 22

On Sunday, September 22, Laura Thompson of Blandford, was named Host of the Day for her outstanding work as a ticket collector at Gate 9 Auto. Thompson, who previously worked in student support services at Westfield State University, has been a part of the Big E team for four years.

Cassidy lauded Thompson for her ability to handle the fast-paced environment with a positive attitude. “You continue to do a great job and spread happiness with your great disposition,” he said during the award presentation.

Thompson attributes her success to her love for people. “I love the people—the people that come in, the people I work with. They’re all good,” she shared. Her friendly demeanor has made her a welcoming presence at one of the fair’s busiest gates.

Honoring Exceptional Service

The Host of the Day award has been a part of the Big E’s customer service program since 1989. It recognizes employees and volunteers who go above and beyond in their interactions with fairgoers, helping to create a welcoming and enjoyable experience for all.

Each recipient was presented with a custom-made trophy by Ryan Gothrup of Mobile Glass Studios and a gift bag filled with Big E merchandise. The award highlights the Big E’s appreciation for the hard work of its seasonal and year-round staff, who help make the fair a beloved destination year after year.
