A 16-year-old girl was arrested in Springfield after allegedly attempting to light a house on fire with over a dozen people inside.

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A 16-year-old girl was arrested in Springfield after allegedly attempting to light a house on fire with over a dozen people inside.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, at around 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, officers patrolling the 500 block of Union Street observed a large fire around a multi-family home, with a suspect seen standing next to a gasoline can.

The suspect began to run away, but officers were able to detain her while putting out the fire around the home at the same time. At the time of the fire, 16 people were inside the home, and all managed to get out safely.

The 16-year-old teenager was placed under arrest, but due to her age, her name, photo, and charges will not be released. The Springfield Arson and Bomb Squad is investigating the incident.
