DANVILLE, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW)- Jackson Wasik and Jack Gohmann are in the same quarterback room for the second time in their careers.

The pair of former Lexington Catholic Knights are suiting up for the Centre College Colonels in Danville, but sharing the same uniform means more.

Back to Catholic

Jackson and Jack have known each other for years and formed a special bond with the younger Wasik under the older Gohmann’s wing.

“I actually first knew Jackson through middle school basketball,” said Gohmann. “We got closer through high school football.”

Both recall one moment as the start of a long friendship.

“We’re playing Covington Catholic,” said Gohmann. “A game we had a great fourth quarter comeback in.”

“I ran a hitch pattern,” said Wasik, who was then playing wide receiver for Catholic.

Gohmann liked Wasik’s matchup and threw to him. “He got seven or eight yards. I was like ‘That kid can play,’” said Gohmann.

“I came to him on the sideline after because it was a high pass and said ‘You got to get that on my chest,’” said Wasik, with a smile on his face.

Down to Danville

Gohmann left the keys to the Catholic team with Wasik when he graduated and committed to Centre.

He knew his former understudy would perform well on Friday nights, but had no idea they would be suiting up on Saturdays together.

“I never though two years from now he’d be here as well. but it’s been a pleasant surprise,” said Gohmann.

“Jack was talking to me throughout the whole process and had me down for a visit,” said Wasik.

Chasing a Championship

The Colonels stand at 2-1 in 2024 as Gohmann leads the offense as the starter. Close by is Wasik, who always is ready to help in good times and bad.

“The brotherhood came in and I would pick him up and the next drive he would score,” said Wasik.

The brotherhood between Wasik and Gohmann may come in handy as the Colonels look to win its first Southern Athletic Association title since 2018 and earn a berth in the Division Three playoffs.

“You all come together with the common goal of winning a conference championship and competing for a national championship. It’s special,” said Gohmann.
