A suspect wanted for a “serious crime” was captured during a police pursuit in Pittsfield.

PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A suspect wanted for a “serious crime” was captured during a police pursuit in Pittsfield Friday morning.

According to the Pittsfield Police Department, officers were tracking a suspect they believed was wanted for a serious crime from a neighboring state. The suspect was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle when police pursued the suspect in the area of West Street.

Officers attempted to stop the vehicle before it approached Crosby Elementary however, they were unsuccessful. The suspect was taken into custody shortly after on a dead-end street.

Pittsfield Public Schools Superintendent Joseph Curtis notified parents of a shelter-in-place at all schools due to the incident. The shelter-in-place was in effect for less than five minutes and has since been lifted.
