WHITE COUNTY, Tenn. (WKRN) — Members of multiple White County fire departments worked together Saturday to save a puppy stranded on a riverbank.
In a Facebook post on Saturday, Sept. 28, the Central View Volunteer Fire Department said it was dispatched alongside the Doyle Volunteer Fire Department to a report of a dog stranded on the bank of the Calfkiller River south of Sparta.
When crews arrived at the scene, they reportedly spotted a puppy in a small cave on the opposite riverbank.
According to officials, the two fire departments and the Sparta Rescue Squad came up with a coordinated plan to paddle a boat across the river and retrieve the dog. Approximately 90 minutes later, first responders removed the wet and cold puppy from the cave.
The Central View Volunteer Fire Department said the original complainants took custody of the dog, which — in coordination with the White County Sheriff’s Office — will be taken to the Bluegrass Veterinary Clinic to be evaluated and scanned for a microchip.
No additional details have been released about this incident.
