CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Governor Maura Healey has ordered all U.S. and Massachusetts flags to be lowered to half-staff on Saturday.


AG appoints special investigator to look into state police recruit death

Flags across the Commonwealth will be half-staffed from sunrise at 7:13 a.m. to sunset at 5:55 p.m. on Saturday in honor of Massachusetts State Police Trooper Enrique Delgado-Garcia.

Delgado-Garcia passed away on September 13th after injuries received during a boxing training exercise at the state police academy. He was sworn in from his hospital bed before his body was taken to the officer of the Chief Medical Examiner facility in Westfield.

Delgado-Garcia was part of the 90th Recruit Training Troop, which is due to graduate on October 9th at the DCU Center in Worcester. Before entering the academy, he worked at the DA’s office for 18 months as a victim’s witness advocate. 22News confirmed that he was a graduate of Westfield State University.
