According to the University of Massachusetts Amherst, hundreds of concertgoers will return to the Common to celebrate the beginning of fall. There will be performances of music from movie soundtracks such as Star Wars and Indiana Jones, musicals like Mary Poppins, West Side Story, Sound of Music, and more, plus marches, polkas, and classic band works by the two ensembles.

The UMass Wind Ensemble, conducted by Matthew Westgate, and the UMass Symphony Band, conducted by Lindsay Bronnenkant, will perform during the celebration, which is sponsored by the Amherst Downtown Business Improvement District (BID).

The event is free and open to the public, and Drake and Abandoned Building Brewery will be serving wine and freshly brewed beer. The celebration will run from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

“This annual event is something we look forward to every year! We love partnering with the BID to bring the community together to celebrate great music and the most beautiful time of the year in Amherst. We hope people of all ages will come to the Common to enjoy our student performers and support local restaurants and this year’s vendors,” said Westgate.

“As ever, the BID is excited to bring live music into our downtown and activate the Common with free programming for all ages,” said Gabrielle Gould, the BID’s Executive Director. “We love working with UMass, and are looking forward to our next Bandtoberfest!”
