MT. HOLLY, S.C. (WCBD) – Century Aluminum has confirmed the death of one of its employees following an incident at the company’s Mt. Holly plant on September 27. The company issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and support for the employee’s family and coworkers.


Berkeley County Coroner identifies worker killed in 15-ft. fall at Century Aluminum

“It is with deep sorrow and regret we confirm that one of our employees has passed away following an incident at our Mt. Holly plant on September 27,” Century Aluminum stated. “We are supporting the bereaved family, and our team is standing by to support colleagues who share in mourning their loss.”

In addition to offering on-site counseling services, the company has made a 24-hour hotline available to provide ongoing support to employees. An internal investigation is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. Century Aluminum also plans to collaborate with local authorities and the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) during the investigation.

“While we do not yet know all the answers, we are committed to working diligently through the process because safety remains our highest priority,” the statement continued. “Our immediate focus remains on the well-being of the family and employees impacted by this incident.”

Out of respect for the family’s privacy and to maintain the integrity of the investigation, Century Aluminum declined to provide any further details.
