ALBANY, N.Y. (NEWS10)– National Grid crews are headed south to assist with power restoration from Hurricane Helene’s storm damage. Over 100 National Grid operation specialists arrived in West Virginia on Saturday night to help turn on the power for thousands of residents.
National Grid is helping Appalachian Power with restoration with employees from western, central, and eastern New York. Additionally, 50 electric operation colleagues from Massachusetts will join the efforts.
According to National Grid, more than four million homes and businesses in the affected southern states remain without power after the storm made landfall in Florida on Thursday night. This trip isn’t the first time National Grid has lent assistance, as the company participates in a mutual assistance program.
National Grid President Sally Librera said the power and gas company is grateful for their field force for bringing their knowledge to where it’s needed most. “Assisting other energy delivery companies is another important role we play as first responders in times of crises like this,” she said.
