Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) said a 2008 Nissan Altima was heading north on Danley Road when it failed to negotiate a right curve, went off the left side of the road, and struck an embankment. Then, the Nissan hit multiple standing trees, causing it to rotate before it came to rest facing east across the ditch.

Officials said the 16-year-old Tennessean driving the Nissan — whose name was not included in THP’s preliminary report — died in the crash. The teen was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident.
