GOOSE CREEK, S.C. (WCBD) – People and organizations across the Lowcountry are finding ways to help those devastated by Hurricane Helene last week.

Harbor Lake Baptist Church in Goose Creek will collect donations for storm victims, and people are invited to stop by on Tuesday to drop off items that will be taken to those in need.

Pastor Bradley Thomas said the pictures of the flooding and devastation were heartbreaking and so they wanted to do something to help those impacted by the storm.

“We wanted to figure out a way to help. A few individuals came to us with an opportunity to host this drive and be a drop-off location,” he said.

People started showing up this weekend with supplies.

“On Saturday we had a large showing. A lot of great things were dropped off from water, non-perishable food items, cleaning supplies, and it was really nice to see the whole community come together,” he said.

Those supplies were loaded onto trailers Monday and are now headed to people in need.

The church is now gathering donations for a second wave of trucks that will leave later this week. People can drop off water, Gatorade, and other comfort items.

“Food items — I know there was toilet paper, some toiletries, and even some animal food because animals need to eat too. And so, there was some cat and dog food just a few different items,” he said.

You can stop by the church from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Tuesday. Harbor Lake Baptist Church is across the street from Goose Creek High School.

They will be taking those supplies to people in need as early as Wednesday morning.
