KAHUKU, Hawaii (KHON2) — Honolulu Fire Department responded to a residential building fire in Kahuku late Saturday afternoon, which left one man injured and 13 college students displaced.

The 911 call came in at 4:33 p.m. after a building fire was reported on Lanihuli Street.

2 men shot at for ʻunknown reasonsʻ in Kalihi

Firefighters located the main fire in the bedroom. Officials said they were able to secure a water supply and initiate an aggressive fire attack.

After conducting primary and secondary searches, it was confirmed that no occupants were found inside the structure.

HFD reported one male to have suffered moderate burns to his hands and feet. He was transferred to EMS shortly before 5 p.m.

Officials said the fire was under control at 5:04 p.m. and was later extinguished.

The 13 college students who lived in the home are currently being assisted by the American Red Cross.

No injuries were reported for HFD personnel. An investigation has been initiated to determine the fire’s origin and cause.
